Years From Now
Although I cannot see your face
As you flip through these poems awhile,
Somewhere from some far-off place
I hear you laughing – and I smile.
~ Shel Silverstein
I can’t believe another April is upon us! It seems the years fly by faster and faster now. And here we are at a new beginning. Straight on the heels of our 10th Anniversary Extravaganza we have some pretty big changes taking place. Welcome to The Poetry Playground!! Providing things are set up the way they ought to be, here you will find a little more room to play. The daily email will still arrive faithfully in your inbox but here is some space for a little extra.
With everyone’s already over stuffed in-boxes I appreciate being allowed to be part of your Spring. I’m hoping that the website will offer a place for comment and/or discussion should the need arise. I always welcome your private comments to me (and those are of course still welcome) but instead of a “reply all” that might be a little too much for some folks – here is a place to play and comment. In addition to your daily email the poem will also be posted here for comments, jeers, applause or discussion. There will also be the occasional blog post from yours truly, the poetry pimp. There may even be a return of Friday bonuses as a website special. We’ll see how much the technology kicks my butt first though!
I appreciate your patience as I work through this process of moving us to a new server complete with website. I am sure the growing pains are not yet over. As many of you know I am technologically challenged (yes, I do still have a flip phone) and this is proving to be quite the … adventure.
A big thanks to Seth (our former host of many years) and to my brother for helping me get up and running with this site I absolutely could not have done this without either of you.
So, in the immortal words of a dear favorite, Dorothy Parker, “What fresh Hell is this?” That’s right, it is your poetry pimp – online! Sort of anyway. It is a whole new April and it is hard to say what is in store! Hopefully you will be understanding with your technologically backwards poetry pimp as she fumbles her way through this madness. And yes, the mad ramblings will, apparently continue (thank you Chuck, for that note of inspiration). With all of the technological advancements I am likely going to take advantage of one more “cheater-head” year. After last year’s Anniversary Extravaganza I may need one more “easy” year to balance these new changes. But, fear not, you will still have your Tax Day Limericks and Poem in Your Pocket Day! I’m just going to use a little help with the daily selections from all of you. That’s right – all the poems you have sent to me over the years will be having their moment in the sun. April is barreling down faster than ever and there is a lot of work yet to be done!
